PhD studies within this programme are closed for further admissions. In 2010, Kunstuniversität Linz started an independent PhD programme. The university has full right of promotion. Entry Requirements Candidates must hold a relevant MA or Diplom (University, Fachhochschule, or foreign equivalent) and submit a research proposal as well as a declaration from the prospective supervisor. Programme Requirements Candidates should include in their study programme a component for theory and general research methodology, discipline-specific work, individual research, and the dissertation. These components can be fulfilled through teaching and seminars as well as through conference presentations and exhibitions, publications, workshops, essays and artistic work. Participation in PhD colloquia and symposia of the Kunstuniversität Linz is mandatory. The dissertation can also take the form of one or several artistic projects related to the research questions. In all cases this work should be documented in an argued and reproducible manner. Additionlly, two of the University’s five research centres, DOM (Design-Organization-Media) Research Lab and space&designstrategies_research, host a series of publications. DOM organizes the biannual DOM conferences and regular workshops. Supervision Candidates and supervisors sign a supervision agreement prior to starting the doctoral project. The first supervisor can be a professor at Kunstuniversität Linz or at an associated institution. Second and third supervisors are optional. Candidates are required to obtain 15 ECTS twice a semester; these are normally granted through a privatissimum with the supervisor. Funding and stipendia There are no special study fees for students from EU countries; students from non-EU countries pay € 363,36 per semester. Students may apply for stipendia of the Austrian State (when eligible) and the University introduced 8 fellowships in very specific research areas. At the moment the amount of the fellowship is Euro 850,- per month.
