PortugalThere are currently six PhD programmes in art and design at HAE institutions within universities in Portugal; the University of Lisbon is the largest with 100 doctoral students at the faculty of arts.The PhD in practice has full legal status since 2009; accordingly, students can choose between pursuing practice-based and theoretical research. However, it does not yet exist in music, dance and theatre. Under previous regulations, there have already been doctoral studies at HAE institutions since 2000. Funding mainly comes from the FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia; the standard amount of doctoral fellowships is € 750 / month.
