Markus Konttinen


Markus Konttinen took up the post of Rector of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2010. His teaching career at the Academy to date has spanned 16 years, with a focus on drawing, painting and perception. He has been head of the degree show committee since 1999 and he has had a pivotal role in the development of the artistic activities of the Academy. 

Markus Konttinen has held solo shows and participated in group exhibitions since 1982. His works can be found in various private and public collections both in Finland and abroad. Several books and essays have been written about his work.

Markus Konttinen has an active role in furthering the voice of contemporary art and art education in society. Amongst other positions, he is currently a board member of the Paulo Foundation.  

Markus Konttinen studied at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts from 1982–1986.
